Checking for updates through built-in menus

Software updates arrive through your television's own settings. Look for a “System”, “Support”, or “About” section, then a “Software update” option. From there you can check for an update and let the television install it. Many televisions can also update automatically overnight.

Important

Only ever update through the television's built-in menu. This website does not host firmware and you should never flash unofficial firmware, which can permanently damage a television.

Why software updates matter

Updates can improve stability, add features, refresh apps, and fix small problems. Keeping software current is one of the simplest ways to avoid avoidable glitches.

Restarting a television safely

A restart clears many temporary issues. You can use the restart option in settings, or simply switch the television off, wait about a minute, and switch it on again. This is completely safe and often the quickest fix.

Energy management

Eco or power-saving settings reduce energy use, and a sleep timer switches the television off after a set period — useful if you tend to fall asleep watching. These options are usually under a “General” or “Eco” heading.

Cleaning a television correctly

  • Switch the television off and let it cool.
  • Use a soft, dry microfibre cloth to wipe the screen gently.
  • If needed, lightly dampen the cloth with water — never spray liquid directly onto the screen.
  • Avoid household cleaners and abrasive materials, which can damage screen coatings.

Ventilation

Televisions need airflow to stay cool. Leave a little space around the set, keep vents clear, and avoid enclosing it tightly in a cabinet without ventilation.

Cable organisation

Tidy cables are easier to trace and less likely to be knocked loose. Group cables together, label them if you have several devices, and keep enough slack so connections are not strained.

Storage management

If your television feels sluggish or warns about space, removing apps you no longer use frees storage. Our apps & entertainment guide explains how to manage storage safely.

General maintenance checklist

  1. Check for software updates every so often.
  2. Restart occasionally to clear temporary glitches.
  3. Dust the screen and vents gently.
  4. Confirm cables are secure and tidy.
  5. Remove unused apps to keep storage healthy.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I update my television?

Enabling automatic updates handles it for you. Otherwise, a quick check every few weeks through the built-in menu is plenty.

Can I use glass cleaner on the screen?

It is best avoided. A soft, dry or lightly dampened microfibre cloth is safest for modern screen coatings.
